Our Group Commander: LtCol. Joe Abegg

LtCol. Joe Abegg joined CAP as a cadet in the Illinois Wing in 1973. By 1977, he had earned the Spaatz Award, Ranger Expert, Blue Beret, CAP pilot's wings, an Air Force Academy nomination and an Air Force ROTC scholarship. By 1981, he was an Aerospace Engineer, an Air Force Pilot and a Squadron Commander. His military career spanned 26 years as an officer which included many flying, command and control and leadership positions. His last assignment was for CAP-USAF Northeast Region Director of Reserve Forces. He graduated the Air War College, the Inland SAR School, the CAP IG School, the CAP C4 School and the CAP PAO Academy.

In 1987, he transfered from active duty Air Force to the Reserves and accepted a position as a pilot for Pan Am until it's demise. he then was hired by United Airlines as a Line Check Airman and is currently a Captain flying Airbus 319's and 320's with over 21,400 flying hours.

From 2005 through 2009 he served at CAP National Headquarters as the National Director of Emergency Services and led 26 national projects, chaired the National Emergency Services Committee and was a member of the National Homeland Security Committee, and the National Coast Guard Subcommittee. From 2009 through 2010 he served as the Northeast Region director of Operations and the Deputy Cheif of Staff for Operations. Since 2010 he has been assigned as the New Jersey Wing Group 225 Commander.

Our Deputy Group Commander: Major Kevin Barstow

Major Kevin Barstow joined Civil Air Patrol in December of 2002, when he joined the Cape May County Composite Squadron in Cape May, New Jersey. While attached to the unit, he performed as the Communications Officer, Emergency Services Officer, Deputy Commander for Seniors and then as the Squadron Commander.

During his tenure as squadron commander, the Cape May County Squadron had received many awards and commendations for their hard work. Under his leadership, the squadron had received the " Squadron of Merit " for the the year 2010. Major Barstow has the Communications, Emergency Services, Information Technologies, Personnel, Administration and Cadet Programs specialties as his specialties.

Major Barstow is currently working as an Incident Commander and is qualified as a Mission Scanner, Ground Team Leader, Mission Radio Operator, Communications Instructor, and is quailfied in Mission Management positions for the New Jersey Wing. Major Barstow is CAP's Representative to the New Jersey Search & Rescue Council , working closely with other Search and Rescue Organizations throughout the State.

Group 225 Meetings are held at the descretion of the Commander, either in-person or via teleconference. Uniform for the in-person meetings are Any authorized CAP Uniform.
